The Fox and Pelican in Grayshott, Surrey, will be holding their first acoustic music evening from 8.00pm until -10.00pm on Tuesday 11th April. This will be very informal, with no amplification or 'time solts'. If you know the song or tune, just join in! Or not, as the fancy takes you! Audience also welcome! If you would like any further details, feel free to contact me. Do let us know how it goes! I'm only a few miles up the A3 and would love to come along. Tuesdays are a bit difficult right now, but I'll definitely come down when things settle down a bit. This turned out to be a lovely evening. There was a decent audience and great contributions from four different sets of performers. We will be holding further sessions on Tuesday May 16th, and a provisional date has been set for June 20th. if anyone is interested in performing, or even attending, please get in touch. A wide variety of genres were played, with a very attentive audience.

Going to see the Megsons in Halesworth (in deepest Suffolk) tomorrow evening. I've not seen them before, but from what I've found online it looks lke being a good evening.

A quick report.... to the Grayshott Folk Club in deepest Surrey last night to see Merry Hell, and a good evening was had by all. Great music, good beer, and a very warm welcome.
If you like folk rock in the style of Steeleye or Fairport, then do give Merry Hell a listen: loud, funny, and not too much finger-in-the-ear stuff.

Not a gig, but an online…..er…..thing, starting today. I’m the featured player for November in a Facebook group called Fretboard Blues. It’s a slightly misleading name as it’s nothing to do with blues, just all things guitar. It’s a private group but easy to join by answering a couple of questions and agreeing to the rules (which are the usual generic ones about no hate speech, no advertising etc). The deal is I get to post a couple of videos a week with music and blathering. I’m quite good at blathering when it comes to the guitar! Join me why dontcha?

A couple of interesting gigs coming up in South London: Dave Ellis and Boo Howard on Jan 9th, and Chris Newman and Maire Ni Chathasaigh (had to look up the spelling) on Feb 13th. If you haven't come across Chris Newman before, he's an amazing guitarist who does everything from classical through Irish traditional tunes to jazz, and Maire is quite superb on the Irish harp. (Chris used to work with Fred "Oldest swinger in town" Wedlock, but we've forgiven him for that now) The gigs are at the Cornerhouse Arts Centre in Surbiton, a venue I'd never heard of before, which is a bit embarassing since I live less than 10 minutes drive away. They look to have a very good set of gigs lined up for 2024, and the tickets are very reasonable.

- Chris and Maire are superb - was fortunate enough to catch them at a local small village hall gig a few years ago - stunning musicians - if you're anywhere near Surbiton you'll not regret going to the gig.

My 1st gig of 2024. Lunchtime at a lovely cafe serving great food. I'll be playing my songs, some blues, and a couple of popular covers. If you're in the area, pop in, be good to see you. lunchtime live 2024 - IAIN PATERSON by Iain Paterson, on Flickr

Aside from a couple of open-mics this will be the first (almost) proper outing for the GJ duo:
